Prevention and
Oral Hygiene
To avoid tooth decay, which requires tooth repair and treatment, the safest way to keep teeth healthy is through regular and adequate maintenance of oral hygiene. Prevention is a fundamental prerequisite for the health of the entire oral cavity.
It includes:
- Oral hygiene
- Regular check-ups at least twice a year
- Removal of hard dental deposits (dental calculus) using ultrasonic scaling and tooth polishing
- Professional cleaning of soft dental deposits through sandblasting to remove tooth discolorations
- Periodontal treatment
- Teeth whitening.
At Gikic Polyclinic, we use Acteon and Mectron for prophylaxis, cleaning, and prevention, as well as EMS AIRFLOW for sandblasting.
Small investment, great benefit for health.
Advantages
- Bright, smooth, white teeth
- Fast, simple, and effective treatment
- Preservation of teeth and gum tissue (gingiva)
Tooth Repair and Treatment
What does tooth repair entail?
Restorative dentistry is one of the fundamental disciplines of traditional dental medicine, and it deals with the removal of tooth decay, the most common disease today. Tooth decay is a localized pathological process of microbial origin that most often leads to demineralization of the hard dental tissues. Bacteria multiply, forming a biofilm known as plaque. Bacteria feed on food debris in the mouth, particularly sugars. As a by-product, acids are produced, leading to demineralization of the tooth surface and the development of tooth decay.
How is tooth decay eliminated and tooth repair performed?
Tooth repair involves two procedures:
- Surface (enamel) and deep (dentin) removal of tooth decay
- Placement of a filling.
We treat tooth decay with composite fillings or ceramic restorations such as inlays, onlays, or overlays.
Today, this is a simple procedure through which we quickly eliminate tooth decay and then restore the shape of the tooth using composite or ceramic material.
Advantages
- One visit for a composite filling
- Two visits for a ceramic filling (inlay, onlay, overlay)
What is tooth treatment or endodontics?
Endodontics is a branch of dental medicine that deals with the treatment of teeth, specifically the treatment of the dental pulp and root canals. If a tooth affected by decay is not treated, bacteria can reach deeper layers, including the pulp, leading to a nerve infection, which can be:
- Acute – pulpitis
- Chronic – granuloma.
Such conditions can be resolved in a single visit through an endodontic procedure, which involves treating the tooth root.
How is tooth treatment or endodontics performed?
If the decay is deep and the pulp (“nerve”) is infected, the tooth needs to be treated, which involves a microsurgical procedure consisting of removing the decay, extracting the inflamed pulp tissue (nerve), filling the root canals with alloplastic materials, and placing a filling to preserve the function and aesthetics of the tooth.
If there is insufficient tooth structure (dentin and enamel), the tooth is weakened. In such cases, a post is placed in the root canal to strengthen the tooth. A temporary crown is then placed on the tooth, followed by a permanent zirconia crown.
Advantages
- Tooth treatment in a single visit
- Completely painless procedure – performed under local anesthesia
- Endodontic treatments have never been more comfortable for the patient
- Fast and simple solution as the procedure takes significantly less time than standard endodontics
- Preservation of the natural tooth
- Highly educated and skilled doctors
Who is a candidate for tooth repair and treatment?
- Everyone with tooth decay
- Everyone with naturally or genetically poor teeth
- Those who experience toothaches and discomfort
- Patients who have been undergoing dental treatment for a long time without completing the therapy
What sets us apart from others when it comes to tooth repair and treatment?
At Gikic Polyclinic, we perform tooth repair and treatment in a single visit. Previously, the treatment process lasted for months, but today, with the help of mechanical endodontics and advanced technology, the patient’s time in the dental office is reduced to a single appointment. For composite fillings and ceramic restorations, we use materials from brands such as Ivoclar (Switzerland) AND GC (Japan), and for tooth treatment, we use mechanical endodontic systems such as VDW Reciproc Gold (Germany), Dentsply Maillefer (Switzerland), Coltène (Switzerland).
We regularly update our knowledge based on the latest advancements in endodontics. Our most recent training took place in April 2023. Our goal is to save every tooth whenever possible. We do everything we can to ensure that you preserve your teeth for as long as possible.
